Homemade Lime & Lemon Sugar Scrub Lip Care

I have been making my own skin care products for 8 months now and I am very impress with the results and the improvement of my face and body. I have softer, less porous, and more radiant skin!!! Particularly, I have enjoyed the efficiency of sugar scrubs and today I will share the recipe for my sugar scrub lip care. I am so thrilled with it that I decided to make small kits (Scrub and balm) and sell them online with great acceptance. It is very simple to make but if you decide to sell or make them for gifts you might want to take in consideration the cost for some ingredients and materials such as coconut oil, essential oils, and new plastic containers.

 Ingredients & Materials:

  • Small plastic or glass containers (reuse balm containers or new ones)
  • Small woken spoon to mix ingredients and a small mixing bowl
  • Oil of your choice: coconut oil, olive oil, almond oil
  • Vitamin E oil
  • Brown Sugar
  • Essential oil of your choice
Steps:
  • Mix one part sugar with one part oil: Personally, I use a little bit of every oil.
  • Add 3 drops of Vitamin E and 1-2 drops of essential oil of your choice: I use a mix of lime with lemon. It smells delicious!
  • Mix all ingredients and place in containers
  • This recipe works for lips, body, face, hands, and feet
I you will like to PURCHASE a kit, I am selling them on ebay at: http://www.ebay.com/itm/231220552504?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

DIY Pendant Yarn Lamp

I was finally able to take some time and make a Pendant Lamp with white yarn and DIY glue. We had two missing Lamps in the hallway and now we only missing one. I took the idea from Pinterest but I decided to try it out with homemade glue/fabric stiffener (cornstarch, white flour, and warm water) being that my little one wanted to help and he tends to taste everything. The project is pretty simple, but it takes about 24 hours to completely dry due to the nature of the glue. I am happy with the results, but I thing I will make a bigger lamp for the second project.

Materials:

  • Beach ball or round balloon of size of your choice
  • Yarn of any color you want
  • DIY Glue/ fabric stiffener (Mix cornstarch 1/2 cup , white flour 1/2, hot water, and allow to cool) or just regular sticky glue

Steps:
  • Inflate ball or balloon
  • Place glue in a large container
  • Deep and soak yarn in Glue (pull end and work by yards)
  • Tie end  to knot of the balloon or ball
  • Begin to wrap yarn around as the soaked yard adheres to the ball
  • Leave an empty opening to be able to hold lamp in place when done (optional)
  • Add as many yarn as you need and leave an even covering around your lamp
  • Hang the lamp from the knot and allow 24 hrs to dry
  • Pock the balloon or deflate ball

Upcycled Wood Shipping Box Project

We had a wood shipping box just being wasted in our back yard and I decided to put it to a good use by chalk painting it with left over pain from the house. The box was a little bit damaged so I had to do some work on it before painting it, but I do love the outcome. The box is being useful as storage, plater, decoration, and it gives a shabby chic country look to our country home. After some quick repairs to the holes on the wood, I applied the following recipe of chalk paint. At the end, I added some wall paper to the inside to give it a nice cute look.

Recipe:
  • 1 cup latex paint
  •  1/4 cup baking soda (Baking soda also helps with paint odor)
  • Clear Furniture wax (to protect, seal, and give it an aged looked)

Steps:
  • Mix the paint with baking soda
  • Once the paint is dry used medium sand paper to distress the areas of the piece you  want to look aged such as the edges and the details
  • Coat the piece with wax using a rug and remove excess with a clean rug moving hand in the same direction
  • Wax can dry quickly so you need to work a bit fast

DIY Chalk Paint Project # 2

I started a bigger chalk paint project with a wooden box that has been outside over 3 years. I just cleaned it and painted the first coat with green paint left over from painting our house walls. While I waited for it to dry, I decided to try the chalk paint on a glass vase, a wine bottle, and a wooden stand. I used the recipe with baking soda for a more natural feeling and  minimum smell while working with the project. For this second project, I used one coat of a darker color (I used green being that I already had some out) so it will show some aging at the time of distress. Honestly, I liked this second project more than the first one!

Recipe:
  • 1 cup latex paint
  •  1/4 cup baking soda
  • Clear Furniture wax (to protect, seal, and give it an aged looked)

 Steps:
  • Mix the paint with baking soda
  • Paint first coat (darker color) , allow to dry, and go for a second coat
  • Once the paint is dry used medium sand paper to distress the areas of the piece you  want to look aged such as the edges and the details
  • Coat the piece with wax using a rug and remove excess with a clean rug moving hand in the same direction
  • Wax can dry quickly so you need to work a bit fast

DIY Chalk Paint project #1

I have heard so many good things about chalk paint that I decided to try it at home with some pieces of furniture and decor items we had in the storage room. There are about 5 DIY chalk paint recipes, but I used the one with Latex Paint and Baking soda. I have chosen Baking soda over other items because it is more natural, it paints nicely, reduces the strong smell of paint, and also reduces the smell of the clear wax. I had no experience painting furniture, and this project was pretty easy, fun, and a great way to test my DIY chalk paint.

 Recipe:

  • 1 cup latex paint
  •  1/4 cup baking soda
  • Clear Furniture wax (to protect, seal, and give it an aged looked)

 Steps:
  • Mix the paint with baking soda
  • Paint first coat, allow to dry, and go for a second coat
  • Once the paint is dry used medium sand paper to distress the areas of the piece you  want to look aged such as the edges and the details
  • Coat the piece with wax using a rug and remove excess with a clean rug moving hand in the same direction
  • Wax can dry quickly so you need to work a bit fast

Vinegar Hair Conditioner

Natural Flair
Out of the hundred uses of vinegar, the one that has become my favorite is the conditioner. Besides the fact that leaves my hair better than any conditioner I have used, it is inexpensive. Once my hair gets dry, I can blow dry it easily.

Facts:

  • It's free of silicone and all of the other chemicals that are typically found in commercial conditioners
  • It contains a single, all-natural ingredient
  • It removes the build up left behind by other conditioners and hair products
  • It seals your hair cuticles, which locks in moisture and leaves your hair looking shiny and smooth
  • It removes/minimizes tangles
  • It doesn't weigh down your hair like cream conditioners (which translates into more body)
  • Your hair stays cleaner longer
  • It balances the pH of your scalp and hair
  • It helps to prevent/treat dandruff
  • It's cheaper than any commercial conditioner

 Procedure:
  • Mix 1 part of vinegar with 3 parts of water in a nice bottle.
  • Apply after shampooing or add it to your shampoo.
  • Leave on for couple of minutes, massage, and rinse.
Note:
  • Hair might smell until it gets dry
  • For blond hair, use regular White vinegar
  • Apple cider vinegar darkens hair and endures color longer
