Upcycled Wood Shipping Box Project

We had a wood shipping box just being wasted in our back yard and I decided to put it to a good use by chalk painting it with left over pain from the house. The box was a little bit damaged so I had to do some work on it before painting it, but I do love the outcome. The box is being useful as storage, plater, decoration, and it gives a shabby chic country look to our country home. After some quick repairs to the holes on the wood, I applied the following recipe of chalk paint. At the end, I added some wall paper to the inside to give it a nice cute look.

Recipe:
  • 1 cup latex paint
  •  1/4 cup baking soda (Baking soda also helps with paint odor)
  • Clear Furniture wax (to protect, seal, and give it an aged looked)

Steps:
  • Mix the paint with baking soda
  • Once the paint is dry used medium sand paper to distress the areas of the piece you  want to look aged such as the edges and the details
  • Coat the piece with wax using a rug and remove excess with a clean rug moving hand in the same direction
  • Wax can dry quickly so you need to work a bit fast
