I have heard so many good things about chalk paint that I decided to try it at home with some pieces of furniture and decor items we had in the storage room. There are about 5 DIY chalk paint recipes, but I used the one with Latex Paint and Baking soda. I have chosen Baking soda over other items because it is more natural, it paints nicely, reduces the strong smell of paint, and also reduces the smell of the clear wax. I had no experience painting furniture, and this project was pretty easy, fun, and a great way to test my DIY chalk paint.
Recipe:
- 1 cup latex paint
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- Clear Furniture wax (to protect, seal, and give it an aged looked)
Steps:
- Mix the paint with baking soda
- Paint first coat, allow to dry, and go for a second coat
- Once the paint is dry used medium sand paper to distress the areas of the piece you want to look aged such as the edges and the details
- Coat the piece with wax using a rug and remove excess with a clean rug moving hand in the same direction
- Wax can dry quickly so you need to work a bit fast
